The Office of Community Service has planned several events to recognize National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week on campus, including the Hunger Banquet and a “sleep-out” on the Wakehurst lawn.
Swipe for Hunger
Students on the meal plan are encouraged to sign up to “skip a meal” on Tuesday, Nov. 17. Proceeds will benefit a local organization. Students can sign up in the Miley Hall lobby from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16.
Blessing Bags
Join the Office of Community Service in making “blessing bags” for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center. The bags will be decorated and filled with toiletries, which will be donated to the center’s food pantry and homeless clients. Bags will be assembled in Wakehurst, Room 201 from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17.

Sleep-Out
Students are invited to make cardboard structures and “sleep” outside for two hours to better understand the daily hardships facing the homeless. The sleep-out will be held from 9 p.m. to midnight Thursday, Nov. 19 on the Wakehurst lawn.

Buy One, Give One
On Friday, Nov. 20, buy a Domino’s pizza with Seahawk Bucks or regular forms of payment, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit Newport’s McKinney Shelter.
