Linebacker Danny Ives ’16, an elementary and special education major, has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America’s academic all-district team.

Ives led the Seahawks in tackles in back-to-back seasons (2013 and 2014). He totaled 87 tackles with 54 solo tackles last season and 100 tackles with 60 solo tackles in 2013. Ives was named to the academic all-conference team in 2013 and 2014 and is also a two-time all-NEFC linebacker. He currently ranks fifth in program history with 252 tackles.

“Danny is a full time student, where I am sure he is doing exceptional this semester, a full time student teacher, where his students like him so much that they come to our games to cheer him on, and an outstanding football player, where he leads the team in tackles,” said head coach Kevin Gilmartin. “But all that doesn’t compare to the all around great person that he is. He deserves this award and every other accolade he will receive.”

Samantha Higgins ’18, Emily Lipinski ’16 and Morgan VanderBaan ’18 have been named to the Commonwealth Coast Conference all-conference team for women’s volleyball. Higgins was named a first-team middle blocker, while Lipinski and VanderBaan garnered third team honors.

Higgins finished the 2015 season with 216 and 66 blocks, ranking third in the conference in that category. “Sam worked very hard to get to where she is right now and as just a sophomore she has two more years to grow even more as a player,” said head coach Lauren Parsons. “She has set the bar for her goals and I know it’s going to fuel her to keep working hard.”

Lipinski totaled 183 kills and 55 blocks for a .259 kill percentage, ranking fourth in conference. “Emily has been a solid player for us and I’m happy that the conference has noticed that once again in her,” Parsons said. “Her presence on the court is definitely noticed and she has worked hard to be able to hit the ball harder and block much stronger.”

VanderBaan was second on the team with 243 digs. “Morgan is not afraid to sacrifice her body to get a ball up,” Parsons said. “She has really mastered being a defensive specialist for us and with her to also be a sophomore she has two more years to be a dominant back row player for us.  It’s great that the conference has noticed a defensive specialist and the hard work they put in to keep the ball alive.”

The Commonwealth Coast Conference has named Abigail Tepper ’16 offensive player of the year, Allison Gold ’16 defensive player of the year and Jennifer Foster coach of the year for field hockey.

Joining Tepper and Gold on the all-conference teams are Marissa Gagnon ’16 (second team), Erin Gendreau ’17 (second team), Lindsey Mazzola ’16 (first team) and Jessie Severino ’18 (second team).

“To have six players named to an all-conference team, with two of those being named player of the year at their respective position, is not only an honor for those individual players but also our entire team,” Foster said. “Without each other, no individual player’s success would be possible.”

Tepper enters the conference championship as the most prolific scorer in Salve Regina history, holding program records with 67 goals and 153 total points. This season, she has recorded a career-high 28 goals and 64 total points. Tepper, who ranks third among all Division III players with 1.47 goals and 3.37 points per game, leads the conference in goals, points and game-winning goals (6).

Gold has anchored a Salve Regina defense that concluded the regular season tied for fewest goals allowed in the conference, as the Seahawks have permitted just 27 goals in 19 games played. Her solid play on defense is a large reason that Seahawk goaltenders currently rank 38th in all of Division III with a 1.42 goals against average.

In Foster’s ninth year guiding the Seahawks, Salve Regina earned the second seed in the conference tournament after posting a 16-3 regular season record, which includes a 10-2 mark in conference play. In 2015, the Seahawks have scored a conference-high 89 goals while tying for the league lead with a conference-low 27 goals allowed.

Salve Regina will host No. 3 seed Endicott College in the opening round of the conference championship at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4 at Gaudet Field.
