Salve Regina’s campus has received some beautiful new updates for the campus to appreciate during the 2021-22 academic year. The efforts were a joint effort between the Office of Student Engagement and the Office of Facilities, and they have been ongoing from summer into the fall of 2021.
To help support the launch of Gerety Hall’s new late-night pub The Nest, which was highlighted in detail in another SALVEtoday article, the seating on the patio at Gerety Hall was upgraded. Gone are the hard metal picnic tables, and they’ve been replaced with comfortable patio furniture. String lights and propane heaters were added to make the patio a comfortable meeting spot throughout the semester.
Facilities also added Adirondack chairs, hammocks and hammock chairs on Gerety Hall’s lawn. Propane fire pits were placed out by the chair, and lawn games have been available for check out.
“It’s been great to see students using these spaces, being able to hang out outside and make that Gerety Hall area a nice student life area,” said Eric Milner, assistant vice president for facilities management.
Inside Gerety Hall, the Garden Level was totally renovated and is now a comfortable air conditioned lounge area with an assortment of games, as well as the eSports lounge, which now has 12 stations instead of 10 from last year. The virtual reality game area is now adjacent to the eSports room, and arcade games, air hockey, ping pong and foosball are there for students to enjoy.
A new conference room was created in the old International Room with furniture from the closed Warwick campus, and a new multi-screen viewing lounge was created in Room 101. The room has recliner chairs and is a place to take food and catch up on live sports or other entertainment.
Overall, the improvements have been well-received around campus throughout the semester.
“After a hard year of studying online and social distancing because of the pandemic, the exciting new renovations of Gerety Hall offers students a fun and refreshing new space to socialize during late night hours on campus,” said Anna Downes ’22, an American studies major. “Not only will it attract first year students and on-campus residents, but it offers off-campus residents a chance to enjoy nostalgic, good-hearted fun.”
